Briefly explain the differences in the role of friendships at four stages in life:

childhood,
adolescence, adulthood, and old age.
What will be an ideal response?

In childhood, friendships are often based on meeting one?s needs and momentary time
spent together doing activities. These friendships are superficial and self-centered. In
adolescence, friendship takes on a more important role, as friends become more
intimate and have more social influence on our behavior. In adulthood, our friends may
be among our most valued relationships; many times our closest friends are also our
co-workers. In old age, we make fewer new friends, but the friends we have become
even more important to us, especially as we retire from work.
