What is the difference between a general average and a particular average in ocean marine insurance?

What will be an ideal response?

A particular average (loss) is damage done to a particular piece of property and the loss is borne by the owner (or insurer). A general average is where property is jettisoned by order of the captain to attempt to save lives and property. In this case any party that has a property interest (including the ship owner) share proportionately in the loss.
