As with many types of radiation, there is an inverse squared relationship between radiation intensity and the distance between the UVR source and the tissue being radiated. The formula is commonly expressed as Intensity (I) is equal to one over distance squared (I = 1/ ). For example, if the UV lamp distance to the target tissue is decreased by one-half, the intensity will be increased fourfold.
