They could impose order on the audience by producing linear stories that lead the audience through the story from beginning to end. Now that readers have such an enormous array of choices of where to get their news and how to consume it, linearity is no longer a given. Nonlinear stories allow journalists to present a collection of content in various formats organized around an idea or theme. This puts readers in control of the navigation and allows them to read whichever elements of the story interest them in the order that they prefer.
