For Reading 17.4, Luther’s Ninety-Five Theses: How would you summarize Luther’s protestation against the selling of indulgences?

What will be an ideal response?

Luther seems to primarily be arguing against what he sees as the corruption of the Church. A central issue for Luther was the sale of indulgences for which he found no theological proof. He also protested its role in widening the divide between rich and poor. Instead, he thought that charity should be directed from the rich to the poor and was unrelated to a person’s time spent in purgatory.
