What is leadership and why is leadership an important concept to study? What is the role of communication in leadership?
What will be an ideal response?
Leadership is an influence relationship among leaders and followers who intend real changes and outcomes that reflect their shared purpose. This is different from management because management is not about a desire for change, but about maintaining order and stability.
It is necessary to learn more about leadership. First, leadership is a part of our everyday lives because we interact in groups (community, social, religious) that rely on some form of leadership to continue and function. Also, we are all leaders and followers at different times depending on the context, sharing some responsibility for group outcomes. Finally, leaders are made, not born, so we can learn about and improve our leadership skills.
The role of communication in leadership is more than stating a vision and giving orders. Communication is central to leadership and involves using language and nonverbal behavior to build relationships, leading to perceptions of trust and commitment to the vision of the organization.
