Based on the lessons from the David Reimer (Bruce/Brenda/David) story, what would you tell a friend whose son underwent a botched circumcision (damaging his penis) about raising the child as a boy or a girl?
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: Sex and gender cannot be changed at will and are not purely cultural. You cannot just socialize a boy to be a girl or vice versa. Some sex differences have biological origins. Trying to raise a boy who does not have gender identity as a girl can have disastrous consequences.
