Describe the three waves of democratization which were followed by reverse waves of regime changes

What will be an ideal response?

The First Wave began in the early 1800s with the emergence of democracy in
several countries in North America and Western Europe, including the United States and the UK. In the late 1920s, the first "reverse wave" began, as several of these countries—most notably Germany—collapsed into dictatorship. In 1945, the defeats of Hitler's Nazi regime and the Japanese and Italian dictatorships brought about the second wave of democratization. The Allied victors of World War II imposed democracy in Germany, Japan, and Italy and restored it to a few other European countries. A second "reverse wave" began in during the Cold War era, when several newer democracies—such as those in Latin America —collapsed. However, the "Third Wave" of democratization began in the mid-1970s with the collapse of a longstanding dictatorship in Portugal. A few countries in Africa and Asia also began to shift toward democracy, but large swaths of the world remain dominated by "not free" non-democratic regimes.
