What are the five steps in the motivated sequence of persuasion? Using the steps of the sequence as a guide, outline a persuasive speech to convince listeners to vote. Include a brief sentence or two for each step of the sequence.

What will be an ideal response?

The ideal answer should include the following concepts, and an appropriate example for each.:
- The motivated sequence is an organizational pattern in which you do five things: (1) gain attention, (2) establish a need for a change, (3) advance a proposal to satisfy the need, (4) visualize for the audience what things would be like were they to do what you suggest, and (5) move them to action.
- Sample speech outlines will vary, but should include information for each of the five steps in the sequence.
* Attention: "Do you want to hear about how you can take action....?"
* Need: "Not everybody is as politically involved as they should be. I conducted a survey, and only 20% of the people in this room voted during the last election."
* Satisfaction: "By voting, you'll be able to voice your opinion and enact change."
* Visualization: "If you don't vote, the candidate you oppose could be elected. You have to do what you can to prevent that from happening."
* Action: "Take out your phones, visit this website, and fill out a quick form to register."
- Student examples will vary.
