Assault is the placing of another in apprehension or fear of an imminent battery. Battery is a reckless or intentional, harmful, or offensive touching of another.In many factual situations, assault and battery occur together. Under the preceding definition of assault, the person must experience fear or apprehension. Some statutes define assault as an attempted battery.
