The round arch has a single center point which is level with the points from which the arch springs. The semi-circular round arch was also used by the Romans and the Byzantines. Pointed arches were used in the Sultan Hassan Madrasa-Mausoleum-Mosque Complex. The pointed arch is the product of two over lapping circles with different center points. Another type is the horseshoe arch which was used at the Great Mosque of Cordoba. In a horseshoe arch the center point is above the level of the arch's springing point. Some horseshoe arches are also pointed. Keel arches have flatsides and slopes where other arches would be curved. A keel arch is used to define the niche at the Madrasa Imami.
