Dr. Mottle's experiment includes randomizing subjects to a group that gets a needle -stick or to a group that gets a "fake" needle-stick

Differentiate experimental group from control group.

What is the role of the placebo in experimental design? Give another example of use of a placebo.
What will be an ideal response?

Experimental group receives the active intervention, the control group receives no intervention or an inactive intervention such as a placebo. A placebo is an inactive substitute for a true intervention. It is sometimes called a sugar pill, but can be something other than a pill. For example a researcher could use a "fake" camera for a
placebo and a real camera in the experimental group.
