Some of our thoughts about the workplace are developed in childhood and
reinforced in later life; some are derived from practical experience with the norms and
organizational culture of a company; and some are refined by the relational interactions
that occur among the specific people with whom we work. We also get our ideas about
work from parents and other family members, from television and other media, and from
other people with whom we spend time.
