Describe the diathesis stress theory of schizophrenia
What will be an ideal response?
The diathesis stress theory of schizophrenia says that some people have a genetic predisposition (a diathesis) that interacts with life stressors to result in the onset and development of schizophrenia. The diathesis stress theory assumes that biological or neurological factors have initially produced a predisposition for schizophrenia. If a person already has a predisposition for schizophrenia, then being faced with stressful environmental factors can increase the risk for developing schizophrenia, as well as trigger the onset of schizophrenia symptoms.
