• Libel is a printed falsehood.
• Slander is an oral falsehood.
• For either to be proved, the person libeled or slandered must prove:
o the falsehood was communicated through print, broadcast, or other electronic means.
o the falsehood identified them or made them easily identifiable.
o they were injured mentally or lost money or their reputation.
o that the person doing the defaming did it maliciously or with gross negligence.
