Explain the main factors associated with parents abusing their children
What will be an ideal response?
Parents who themselves were abused are more likely to abuse their children, although the percentage is still very small. Stress, lack of relationship skills, lack of cognitive skills, unrealistic views of child development, and drug and alcohol abuse are some of the main causal factors of abuse. The temperament of the child also plays a role. A child who is fussy and cries frequently (difficult temperament) is more likely to be abused, especially if the parent assumes the child intends to behave badly.
