Explain how the concepts of “pan-Indonesian” and musical “pluralism” contribute to the difficulty of understanding the music of Indonesia

What will be an ideal response?

• In spite of some general cultural traits shared by the many peoples of Indonesia, regional diversity makes speaking of a single, all-embracing "Indonesian" culture problematic. "Pluralism" in this context refers to many different kinds of music existing side-by side with their categories sometimes overlapping so that one "kind" of music may actually be found in several different categories at the same time.
