Describe the purpose of CLIA standards and the meaning of CLIA-waived tests
What will be an ideal response?
ANSWER:
The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments provide standards for the accuracy, safety, and quality of medical laboratory testing for the diagnosis, screening, and treatment of human disease. Most laboratory tests must meet CLIA standards; however, some routine laboratory tests such as glucose monitoring, urine dipstick tests, and color-based pregnancy tests have such little risk for error that they are CLIA-waived.
