It is difficult to hear the difference between photon and proton. What contextual clues would help you distinguish these terms?

What will be an ideal response?

Photons are used to treat more superficial areas and can penetrate 1 - 6 cm in depth. Protons are used to treat areas that overlie tissues which are highly sensitive to radiation. The depth of proton therapy can be precisely controlled. Clues might include the type of tissue being treated, the type of tissue surrounding the affected tissue, and the depth of the tumor to be treated. Proton therapy is less common than photon therapy.
