A representative office does not actually conduct business; rather, it functions as a foreign contact point where interested parties can obtain information about a particular firm. An agent is an individual who is employed as an independent representative of a firm. Agents are subject to the supervision of the parent firm (or principal), and the authority that they can exercise is limited to what the parent delegates to them. While in the host country, they are subject to the laws of that sovereign.
