Caffeinism is excessive use of caffeine. The symptoms of this can include nervousness, irritability, tremulousness, muscle twitching, insomnia, flushed appearance, and elevated temperature. Caffeine Use Disorder is not a recognized substance use disorder by the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-V. But there is evidence that some coffee drinkers meet the general criteria for a use disorder, including withdrawal: headaches, fatigue, decreased vigor, and increased depression scores. Some participants were unable to perform everyday tasks when deprived of caffeine.
