Nuclear families have a married couple as the “center” and includes children. Traditional nuclear families have a father as the financial provider and a mother who is responsible for childcare and domestic work. A contemporary nuclear family involves any deviation from the traditional one. It may have a stay-at-home dad and a breadwinner mother, or may consist of a dual-career couple who both work outside the home and provide care for their children.
