What is the harm of name-calling?
A) The harm has been exaggerated in textbooks and the media. Given our diversity,
we must practice profiling in this way if we are to preserve liberty.
B) The "harm" is limited to a few unsophisticated individuals with loud, angry
voices who rarely succeed in drowning out more moderate voices.
C) The harm is real. Demeaning those with different points of view can, in effect,
silence them and undermine democratic debate.
D) Harm occurs when we do not assign derogatory names. Name-calling allows us to
have an honest, open dialogue about who we are as individuals and a nation.
