Discuss what is meant by sequence within a full-body massage routine. What are the typical components of a sequence?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: The sequence of a massage routine is the general order in which the practitioner addresses the different body regions. The body regions are usually addressed when the client is in either the supine or prone position. For example, the back is addressed when the client is prone, while the chest is addressed while the client is supine. A massage sequence includes several parts. It begins with opening and warming techniques like effleurage and compression to warm the tissues and promote relaxation and improve circulation. Once the tissues have been warmed, the practitioner will then introduce more varied technique combinations like petrissage, warming friction, and joint movements. If addressing a therapeutic goal, techniques like deep friction or deep pressure might also be used. Before moving to the next body region, the practitioner first needs to use finishing techniques like effleurage or tapotement and then transition to the next body region by connecting the two. This may be done with long strokes that tie the two areas together. The practitioner would then use a similar sequence on the next body region, adjusting the techniques based on the size of the area and other considerations.
