Explain the differences between the assimilationist and the liberationist approach to sexual orientation.

What will be an ideal response?

Those who favor an assimilationist approach seek equal civil and political rights but generally are willing to adopt the cultural norms of mainstream, heterosexual society: For instance, they favor same-sex marriage, the expansion of a heterosexual institution to include them. The liberationist approach, on the other hand, seeks to transform sexual and gender norms, not simply to gain equal rights with heterosexuals but also to liberate everyone to express whatever sexual orientation and gender identity they wish; the goal is to gain social acceptance and respect for all regardless of their conformity to preexisting norms or institutions.
