Summarize the research findings on violent crimes committed by adolescents. How successful have programs been in decreasing youth violence? Describe the newer approaches aimed at decreasing delinquency and their success
What will be an ideal response?
Approximately 20% of all violent crimes in the U.S. are committed by individuals under the age of 18. As of 2003, programs aimed at decreasing the incidence of these crimes have met with very little success. A new program called the Fast Track Project may provide more hope. In this program, children are taught how to recognize others' emotions and learn strategies for controlling their own emotions. So far, this program seems to be having more success than past programs.
