Paralanguage is the vocal aspect of delivery that accompanies speech and other nonverbal utterances. Your voice's
volume, speaking rate, in?ection, pause, pronunciation, and articulation give meaning to the words in your speech.
The volume of your voice can indicate to your audience if you are nervous (if too soft) or aggressive (too loud).
Speaking too rapidly also indicates nervousness. In?ection of your voice animates your message. Speaking without
in?ection, which is called monotone, can create boredom in your audience. Using pause in your speech may
effectively create drama or indicate to your audience that you are moving on to another point. Saying words
correctly (pronunciation) and clearly (articulation) is an important aspect of speech delivery. Correctly saying the
words in your speech help ensure your audience understands your message.
