Explain what the Tea Party movement stands for, and describehow each factor that gives rise to social movements is illustrated by the Tea Party movement

What will be an ideal response?

An ideal response will:
1, Explain that the Tea Party is overwhelmingly Republican and its members are from the most conservative wing of the party. Tea Partiers typically have very strong antigovernment views (health care, social programs, economic intervention) and anti-immigration views.
2, Discuss the Tea Party relative to the factors analyzed in Learning Objective 8.4: real or perceived distress (too much government and the wrong kind—bank bailouts, health care reform, rising deficits, taxes and regulations, immigration), availability of resources for mobilization (political ties to elites and resources in the Republican Party), a supportive environment (media outlets like Fox News and conservative talk shows encourage and fund demonstrations across the country, declining support for Democrats), a sense of efficacy among participants (taking over health care town hall meetings across the country and aspiring to the highest executive offices in recent elections), and a spark to set off the flame (economic recession).
