Community is defined as “the common understandings among people who are committed to coexisting.” People from the same ethnic group likely share many common understandings and are probably committed to living together as a community, whereas members of different ethnic groups may not share understandings and may not be committed to living with each other. Therefore, the community may become divided along ethnic lines.
