One critical point is that this is a way of collecting information to be used by the parties and others to clearly identify the conflict and in the managing of the conflict. In the main narrative of the conflict, parties usually describe the facts and ideas about why the conflict originated, how it originated, and who is involved. In the narrative, parties to the conflict also describe main events that have occurred, including worsening situations or possible ways the parties to the conflict have explored to find a solution. Another point is that based on this narrative, parties and others engaged in the conflict or its solution can distinguish facts, stories, and particularly, can be helpful in identifying issues and interests.
