Distinguish between the constructs and concepts components of health behavior theories

Constructs are the theory-specific elements of a health behavior theory. They are the individual factors that have hypothesized relationships with other factors. Constructs of the health belief model include perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived threat, perceived benefits and perceived barriers, and cues to act. Collectively, the constructs and relationships work to explain and predict the phenomenon of health behavior. In contrast, concepts are broader categories that can contain multiple specific constructs. For example, stages of change is a concept, and individual stages such as contemplation, action, and maintenance are included in the concept. Not all theories include broad concepts, but all theory includes constructs.?
