Do you think that our new capabilities in prenatal testing and genetic counseling will result in a decrease in the number of individuals born with serious genetic defects, or could it result in an increase? Explain your reasoning

What will be an ideal response

Most answers will note that increased testing and counseling will reduce the
occurrence of defects, because parents will usually choose either not to risk
pregnancy or to terminate an affected pregnancy. Testing will also result in a greater
ability to treat problems early, even in utero, resulting in fewer affected individuals.
However, it should be noted that prenatal testing and genetic counseling are not
flawless.
