Discuss the four different listening styles. What is the significance of knowing your own
listening style?
What will be an ideal response?
People oriented listeners prefer to focus on emotions and feelings communicated either
verbally or nonverbally by others. Action oriented listeners prefer messages to be
communicated in a well organized, brief, and error free manner. They want to get to the
point and may be more skeptical, second guessing the assumptions underlying a
message. Content oriented listeners are comfortable with complex and detailed
information and are likely to see a message without facts and evidence as being less
important. Time oriented listeners like brief, short messages. They are typically busy
people who gauge their success by what they accomplish.
Knowing your own listening style can help you adapt and adjust your style to others.
