Lionel is very lonely and depressed. Based on your reading of the text, what might Lionel do to reduce his loneliness?

What will be an ideal response?

Lionel may know he is lonely but be unsure why that is the case. He may benefit from acquiring new and more appropriate social skills. This includes improving his social perception and his impression management. He might have someone videotape him interacting and then watch the video to learn more about how he comes across to others. He may not realize that he is "turning others off" by some of his behaviors. He might be surprised to know that his requests sound like orders, or that he interrupts people frequently. Cognitive therapy in which he is encouraged to think differently about others may also allow him to develop more realistic expectations about others and social interactions. For example, he may not be aware that other people are very sensitive to criticism.
