What is transformational leadership and how does it differ from charismatic leadership?
What will be an ideal response?
Transformational leadership is a leadership style that emphasizes the importance of relationships. The role of the transformational leader is to empower group members to work independently of the leader by encouraging group cohesion. One key idea in transformational leadership is that the leader develops relationships between group members so that once the group is working together toward a common vision, the group can continue without the leader with strong momentum into the future.
Although a transformational leader can be charismatic, he/she does not rely on charisma to lead, so transformational leaders are different from charismatic leaders. Charismatic leaders rely on their strong personalities to create follower loyalty to themselves, whereas transformational leaders build relationships to create loyalty to the organization. Also, charismatic leaders often have short-lived influence, whereas transformational leadership leads to enduring inspiration.
