What is cultural distance and why should organizations be concerned about it? What are the benefits of being exposed to distant cultures?
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Cultural distance refers to the extent to which cultures differ in values. In general, greater cultural distance impedes communication and makes negotiations, mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures more difficult. In addition, expatriates working abroad will generally find it more difficult to adjust to more distant cultures. Exposure to distant cultures has some benefits. A study determined that leaders with more global work experience had more strategic competence, especially when they had been posted to more distant cultures.
