List symptoms and criteria used to diagnose minor depression
Minor depression is a lesser form of clinical depression. Clients must have one of two symptoms for at least 2 weeks lasting most of the day and occurring nearly every day. The two symptoms are depressed mood and loss of interest or pleasure in things normally enjoyed. Additional criteria used to diagnose minor depression include symptoms that impact ability to function, symptoms that are not due to substance abuse or to a recent loss of a loved one, and having no history of a major depressive or manic episode. Figure 8-1 in the text lists some of the signs and symptoms that may be associated with depression in general.
