Explain how the color of a person’s urine is related to their hydration status?

What will be an ideal response?

When a person is completely hydrated his/her urine is predominately water. Since the urine is not very concentrated with waste products it appears clear or mostly clear. During a period of dehydration the body conserves water, therefore less water and proportionally more waste is in the urine. In this situation the high concentration of waste causes the urine to be dark. The darker the urine the more concentrated the urine therefore the greater the state of dehydration. Dark urine reflects dehydration. Clear urine reflects hydration. Disease and medication can distort this relationship between urine color and hydration status but in a normal situation the darker the urine the more dehydrated.
