Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is a world leader in software engineering and development. The SEI helps organizations improve their software capabilities and develop or acquire high quality software. As shown in Figure B-1, the SEI is investigating the next generation of large-scale system-of-systems development. Powerful CASE tools continue to play critical roles in the development of such complex systems.
This is a good group project. Identify the key roles played by CASE tools at normal scale, and then discuss whether or not these roles would still be useful at SoS scale. Then identify new capabilities that CASE tools should provide to deal with challenges unique to SoS-scale projects.
