Role relationships differ from friend, family, and romantic relationships because they only revolve around a specific context and activity and do not continue beyond that context. For example, one might see the same checkout clerk at the grocery store every week, but his/her relationship with the clerk only exists in the interaction of buying groceries at the grocery store.
