What is database marketing and why is it so heavily critiqued??

What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER:
The Internet raises database marketing to a new level that many consumers find deeply troubling. Over time, information can be matched across sites and identified with individual consumers, even those who are careful to avoid revealing personal information on the Web. Personal information can then be matched to offline databases of commercially available public information, such as auto registrations, marriages, births, and home sales. Personalized advertising can also mean discriminatory pricing and applications that use GPS capture information on your physical location and personal habits. These practices raise many privacy issues from which the consumer needs to protect them.
