Explain how chronemics involves the passage of time.
What will be an ideal response?
The length of time that an event takes can be a method of nonverbal
communication. Staring into someone’s eyes for an extended amount of time can mean
that the person is angry, that he or she is pondering an answer to a question, or it can
be an endearing gesture. Another example would be spending a long time reading the
chapter of a textbook. This action can convey interest, as opposed to quickly scanning a
chapter to end the task as quickly as possible, conveying disinterest or boredom.
