Define stress and strain

ANS: Stress is the force applied to a tissue per unit area. Strain is the deformation that occurs in a tissue
in response to an applied stress and is expressed as the change in shape (length, width) over its
original shape (length or width). Stresses and strains may be tensile, compressive, shear, or
torsional.
