Define adaptively shortened and stretch-weakened muscles and briefly describe how faulty postures can lead to these conditions
What will be an ideal response?
Adaptive shortening is the chronic tightness that occurs in a muscle as a result of remaining in a shortened position for extended periods. Stretch-weakening is the chronic weakness that occurs in a muscle as a result of remaining in a lengthened position for extended periods. Faulty postures pull the body off of a neutral joint alignment, causing muscles on one side of the joint to chronically shorten while overstretching and stretch-weakening opposing muscles.
