Distinguish between a critical period and a sensitive period for the development of language

What will be an ideal response?

The "critical period" is the only time that one may learn a particular aspect of
language. Once that period has come and gone, no amount of training or exposure
to the environment will modify the developing person so that they might advance.
The "sensitive period" is not as rigid and suggests that there are best or optimum
times to learn the language component, but if that period passes, it will still be
possible to learn the component later via training or new experiences.
