Luther introduced chorale music to church services where the congregation as a whole sang hymns which embodied Luther's sense that music is only second to the word of God in deserving praise. Luther also wrote hymns and compiled nine hymnals written in vernacular and using popular melodies. "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" (Track 17.1) is still widely sung today.
