What is the difference between System 1 and System 2 in thinking and problem solving?

System 1 answers quickly and almost automatically, giving what it considers the obvious answer. System 2 does mathematical calculations, considers evidence, and otherwise devotes time and effort to determining an answer and checking whether it is correct.
