Briefly assess how it is possible to have an incorrect or distorted view of our selfconcept

What will be an ideal response?

We can perceive ourselves in a more favorable light than is warranted or we
can perceive ourselves in a more negative light. Our self-concept is affected by
enculturation, family, friends, coworkers and other factors. If people have not been
honest with an individual or if the individual has "tuned out" feedback from others, the
individual may have a distorted view of self. This distorted view will impact
relationships and how the individual is perceived by others. These perceptions may stem
from unhealthy self-esteem or a low level of self-awareness.
