Explain the threat of substitutes for Blockbuster, the movie-rental business

What will be an ideal response?

Customers' options seem to be increasing. Cable and satellite TV would seem to be a separate industry from movie
rentals. However, movie channels available through these outlets would seem to be clear substitutes for movie
rentals. And, more recently, the availability of on-demand movie streaming through cable and satellite providers
seems to provide an even closer substitute product. Also, it could be said that a substitute for in-home movie
viewing is actually going to a movie theater to view a film. Thus, the prices that Blockbuster and other
movie -rental businesses can charge is to some extent limited by the availability of viable substitutes.
