Explain the difference between generalizations and stereotyping

When we engage in generalizations, we are comparing current stimuli to those
previously experienced, and categorizing something as representative of an entire group.
Stereotyping, on the other hand, involves assuming that a person is a representation of a
generalization. Generalizations are not problematic until they are taken to the extreme and
applied to every similar stimulus, while stereotyping does not reflect the uniqueness of
individuals.
